Your choices after a collision in Ontario
- Towing: outside the provincial highway tow zones, you choose the tow company and destination, and the operator needs your consent before towing. Ontario towing laws explained.
- Repairs and rentals: FSRA says that as long as your insurer approves the estimate, you may use the repair shop of your choice, and you can choose your rental company. What your insurer pays depends on your policy.
Highway tow zones: sections of Highways 400, 401, 403, 404, 409, 410 and 427 and the QEW are in Ontario's Tow Zone Program, where only the ministry's contracted operator can tow vehicles off the highway. Once your vehicle is outside the zone, you can choose who tows it next and where it goes.
